William Goldman (born August 12, 1931) is an American novelist,
playwright and two-time Academy Award-winning screenwriter. Goldman currently lives in New York City. He also wrote The Princess Bride under the pen name Simon Morgenstern.
Simon Morgenstern is both a pseudonym and a narrative device used by Goldman to add yet another layer to The Princess Bride. He presents his novel as being an abridged version of a work by Morgenstern, an author from the same country that the story takes place, Florin.
